- Title
Artificial Nutrition and Hydration at the End of Life: Whose Decision Is It?
- Authors
Biedrzycki, Barbara A.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of artificial nutrition and hydration in retrieving patients from surgery. Artificial nutrition may be a temporary necessity to provide fluids and nutrients to people recovering from surgery, a procedure, or side effects of anticancer therapy. Others may consider it to be a more permanent option or their last chance of hope. With artificial feedings, a person will not experience the taste or sensation of food nor have control over how much they ingest. Providing artificial nutrition and hydration may prevent natural anesthesia in some cases.
