- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Catholics novels in French literature, a genre started at the beginning of the nineteenth century and continuing through the twentieth century. Books discussed include "Atala" by François-René de Chateaubriand, "Le Curé de village" by Honoré de Balzac, and the three-volume "Somme de poésie," by Patrice de La Tour du Pin. Themes explored include realism and spiritualism, skepticism, orientalism, and modernism.
