The article focuses on the memoirs of Christian de La Mazière, a former French volunteer soldier who fought during Adolf Hitler's reign in Germany. It highlights several publications that have published memoirs of French volunteers during the said period. It outlines three main organizations involved in helping the Germans including the Légion des Volontaires Français contre le Bolchevisme (LVF), the Achte Französische SS-Freiwilligen Sturmbrigade or Brigade Frankreich and the Dreiunddreiβigste Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS Charlemagne or Division Charlemagne.
