The Voyage Out: Transacting Sex under Globalization.
- Authors
Arondekar, Anjali
- Abstract
This article explores the multiple ways in which recent scholarship on sexuality navigates through and sinks in the very colonial landscapes it hopes to exceed and supplant. The author suggests that the notion of sexuality has as its center questions of movement and uncertainty. She reviews three books that examine questions of sexuality in a global frame, which include "With Respect to Sex: Negotiating Hijra Identity in South India," by Gayatri Reddy, "The Intimate Economies of Bangkok: Tomboys, Tycoons and Avon Ladies in the Global City," by Ara Wilson and "The Gay Archipelago: Sexuality and Nation in Indonesia" by Tom Boelstorff.
