- Abstract
Depending on with whom you are speaking, home television is a blessing or a curse for school-aged children. This paper considers the question of home television, examines its strengths and weaknesses from a developmental point of view, and makes recommendations for action by educators and parents. Strengths considered are: educational growth, aesthetic development, and entertainment. Weaknesses discussed are television violence and aggressive behavior, passivity by viewer, the limiting of socialization, health considerations, moral examples portrayed, and the contrast between the real world and the world of television. Eight recommendations are presented to parents and educators.
