The Metamorphoses of Empire in the Arthurian Tradition.
- Authors
Hume, Kathryn
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the depiction of empires attached to the tradition of King Arthur from 1136 to the England-oriented Arthuriana. It explores changes in the imaginary realms and analyzes broadly defined eras and their projected empires, particularly the epic and romance empires from the early and late medieval periods. It examines the ethical concerns over imperial use of power and attempts to historicize Arthur as the resister of colonizers.
