- Abstract
Barbara Picht examines in her book "The 'Interpreters of Europe' and the Cold War" the interpretations of time in the fields of history and literature in France, Germany, and Poland during the Cold War. She selects one author per discipline from each of the four countries and analyzes their influence and position in the academic landscape. Picht structures her analysis into four chapters, in which she examines the experiences of war, positioning, knowledge topographies, and the institutional power of the Cold War. She concludes that the examined scholars were more concerned with crises of the first half of the 20th century and their own nation-building, rather than interpreting the Cold War. The book offers an exciting contribution to European conceptions of Europe and interpretive approaches from the fields of history and literature.
