The author reflects on the article "Cigarette Smoking and Depression Comorbidity: Systematic Review and Proposed Theoretical Model" by A.R. Mathew, L. Hogarth, A.M. Leventhal, J.W. Cook, and B. Hitsman which appears in a 2017 issue of the journal. The efforts to improve the effectiveness of smoking prevention interventions involving people with severe mental ill-health (SMI) are examined, along with cognitive impairment and the relationships between patients and mental health professionals.
