- Abstract
The article focuses on the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS), a network of genebanks where plants from all over the world are curated, propagated, analyzed and distributed for scientific use. A majority of the 511,000 samples are kept at over 20 Agricultural Research Service (ARS) genebanks. NPGS, which plays a key role in agricultural research, serves as an insurance policy for resources to meet challenges to U.S. and world agriculture.
