- Abstract
Background: The lavender essential oil has been used cosmetologically and therapeutically for centuries, which is one of the few essential oils that can be used neat on the skin and especially on the wound. This essential oil reported to show antibacterial, antifungal, carminative, sedative, antidepressive, and effective for burns and insect bites. Aim: The present study is focused on evaluating the in vitro antidiabetic effect of this essential oil. Materials and Methods: The in vitro antidiabetic effect of lavender oil was evaluated by assessing the a-glucosidase and a-amylase inhibition. Results: The results showed that the oil possessed inhibitory activity on both the enzymes in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion: Thus, the study can be concluded that lavender oil possessed a potent in vitro antidiabetic effect.
