- Abstract
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a family of potent, multifunctional growth factors belonging to transforming growth factor-ß. BMPs can cause differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblastic lineage and promote the proliferation of osteoblasts. BMPs stimulate the target cells by specific membrane-bound receptors and signal transduced through mothers against and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways. It has been demonstrated that play an important role in bone formation. This focuses on the molecular characterization of BMP-2 family and their application of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The role of BMP-2 has been studied extensively by Chandler in osteogenesis.
