- Authors
Linn, James G.; Wilson, Debra Rose; Fako, Thabo T.
- Abstract
In this analysis, we discuss the historical evolution of the western family with a focus on the United States. Further, we describe the structure of the current American family with comparisons to families in other industrialized and developing nations. Finally, we review recent research findings on the health and psychosocial consequences for children and mothers of family type, and present the challenges and recommendations for overcoming these challenges, for assisting childbirth, and providing childbirth education that can be linked to the forms of the modern family.
