- Title
On "viewing things" and "viewing nothing": A dialogue between Confucianism and Phenomenology.
- Authors
Huang Yushun
- Abstract
The article discusses issues between the relationship of Confucianism and phenomenology. It mentions that guannian or ideas are outcomes of guan or viewing. However, viewing can be understood to have various levels of meaning including "viewing things" or viewing with something to view, and "viewing nothing" or viewing with nothing to view. All existing things and phenomena are being viewed in "viewing things" whereas the being itself is being viewed in "viewing nothing." Confucianism states that the presence of "nothing" shows itself as life sentiments especially of love. Moreover, "viewing nothing" is a perception of life.
