- Abstract
Reaction time, also known as the speed of nevro-muscular reaction is important in everyday life and also in sports. The aim of this research paper is to find out if the simple and complex reaction times on sound and vision stimulus between athletes and those who don't play sports differ and also if there are any differences between reaction times between athletes of different sport disciplines. We tested 80 male teenagers aged 15 to 18. For the measurement of simple reaction time we used the electrodiagnostic medicine technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by thigh muscle (EMG) and for the measurement of complex reaction time we used a computer program, developed specially for this case. It was found that reaction times on sound stimulus are shorter, than reaction times on vision stimulus (37 miliseconds) and that athletes have shorter simple (33 miliseconds on visual in 25 miliseconds on sound stimulus) and complex reaction times (148 miliseconds on visual stimulus). It was also found that reaction times between athletes of different disciplines don't differ, except in the case of simple reaction time on sound stimulus (39 miliseconds).
