- Title
Maritime Piracy: Changes in U.S. Law Needed to Combat This Critical National Security Concern.
- Authors
Pines, Daniel
- Abstract
The article analyses what international and U.S. law authorizes the U.S. to do to combat the national security threat posed by maritime piracy including ability to militarily attack pirates, seize their vessels and prosecute them. It builds on the international law regime to describe the laws that the U.S. has, to use force against pirates while evaluating availability of the courts to prosecute them. It offers several proposals for augmenting the U.S. ability to combat this problem.
