- Abstract
The article discusses the rising number of asylum claims in the U.S. as a consequence of Section 601 provision in the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. Topics include the law that targeted One Child Policy of the People's Republic of China and benefits gained by Chinese immigrants. Also cited are impact of claims on decisions of the Board of Immigration Appeals as to media portrayal of Chinese asylum seekers and federal court discretion in rejecting claims.
