- Abstract
Introduction: Skin diseases are common in postranplant renal patients. It is important to check patients looking for any skin problem to improve early diagnoses in this group. Aim: To measure the prevalence of cutaneous manifestations in patients with renal transplant at San Ignacio Medical Hospital in Bogota, Colombia. Methods: 86 patients with kidney transplant were evaluated during 2010 and 2011 at the Transplant Unit in San Ignacio Medical Hospital. Diagnosis of cutaneous diseases were made through clinical examination of skin, mucous membranes, nails and hair. Skin biopsies, specific cultures and serological test were done when required. Results: Skin and mucosal diseases were found in 85 patients (99 %); 41 (48 %) showed superficial mycoses; 17 (20 %) viral lesions; 13 (15 %) bacterial infections; and 14 (17 %) precancer/neoplastic lesions. Conclusions: Cutaneous diseases are frequent in kidney transplant patients. We suggest routine dermatological examination in all renal transplant patients, for early detection of skin lesions and thus initiate appropriate treatment. The most common injuries were superficial mycoses.
