- Abstract
The article discusses the status of communications formats in present day Uruguay. In 2006, president Tabaré Vásquez named several media groups that were supposedly in systematic opposition with the government, a move that infuriated these companies. The move was surprising considering the government's stance on defending freedom of expression and the independence of the various powers within the country. It also served as a warning sign to the various media outlets (radio, television and press) that have become united under the banner of communications unions and groups.
