- Abstract
The article examines the historical episodes of financial instability in Great Britain to build a better understanding of the causes of financial crises and to disseminate the knowledge to a wide audience. Topics covered include factors that contributed to the crisis in the small banks sector, a discussion on financial liberalisation and credit expansion, and competition faced by banks from specialist mortgage lenders that depended on low wholesale funding costs.
