- Abstract
The article presents a study which uses X-ray microbeam diffraction analysis to examine a tooth discolored by tetracycline (TC). The tooth used in the study is described, noting that it is a left mandibular canine without hypoplasia and caries which was extracted from a nine-year-old girl. The intermittent administration of TC to the girl between the ages of six months and five years in order to treat colds is mentioned. Also mentioned is the preparation of a 50-micrometer (μm) labiolingual section from the tooth, to which ultraviolet light was applied to determine fluorescent and nonfluorescent areas.
