- Abstract
The article describes the case of a 60-year-old male patient who was admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) at the Sri Venkatesware Institute of Medical Sciences in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh in India in October 2013, with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilatory support. An image of the patient's skin suggestive of infectious purpura fulminans is presented.
