- Title
An Interview with Bert Corona.
- Abstract
This article presents an interview of Bert Corona, a Mexican American leader. On being asked about the role of oratory and poetry, and other kinds of persuasive discourse, in the Mexican American protest movement of the 1960s and 1970s, Corona said that traditionally and historically, rhetoric has been a very strong element of communication in the Mexican American culture, primarily because they are people whose culture does stem from the Mediterranean in great part, through Spain to Rome, to Greece, and to the Near East. Regarding his role as spokesman for the Mexican American movement, he said that his origins stem from the mid-1930s when he joined the Longshoreman's Union and he was active in the National Congress of the Spanish-Speaking People.
