- Abstract
The article describes the differences between scientific and universal preservation of library materials, involving either the scientific methods for preserving artifacts or the attitudes of library staff toward maintenance of versus access to materials. According to the author, more valuable and rare materials are generally restricted, librarians must consider the moral implications of conservation and restoration, and libraries must be prepared for emergencies such as flood and fire.
