- Abstract
Optical communication systems have better data rates and bandwidth compared to current RF and WiFi systems. Optical systems can provide superior data rates to the last mile user electronics like smart phones and tablets. This paper focuses on the mobility and network performance of a novel optical antenna made of VCSEL transceivers and Acousto Optics Cell Arrays (AOCAs). The proposed optical antenna sweeps the optical beam in 3D to scan for the other nodes in the network. The beam manipulation is achieved by AOCAs. The Line Of Sight is not guaranteed at all times for mobile portable devices. The affects on data rates and bit error rates due to loss of LOS on such systems have been thoroughly investigated and presented.
