- Title
Backgrounds and Positioning of Subjects.
- Authors
Rosenberg, Steven P.
- Abstract
This article presents information related to medical photography. A perfect exposure and well-focused lens will give technically good photographs, but for those truly excellent images the photographer must have some foresight in positioning the subject. Just as important as what is in the picture is what should be left out. Distracting backgrounds, jewelry, nail polish, and clothing should be removed unless they are directly associated with the pathology (i.e., contact dermatitis). If photographs are taken in an examining room that has patterned wallpaper or pictures on the wall, photographer should consider painting the door white, black, or, better still, covering the door with black felt or velvet which will provide a convenient backdrop for photographing generalized processes.
