- Abstract
The author discusses the responsive and costly teaching behavior in fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus). Topics include the cost of incubation calling to fairy-wren mothers, the immediate energetic cost and opportunity cost of vocalization behavior in songbirds, and the misinterpretation of the operational definition of cost in teaching animals by Kleindorfer and colleagues.
