- Abstract
This article explores the challenges of managing nonmotor symptoms (NMS) in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) in low-resourced settings. It highlights the lack of specialized healthcare professionals and limited access to diagnosis and treatment as major obstacles. However, there are strategies available to manage NMS in PD, including nonpharmacological interventions like diet, exercise, cognitive training, and alternative therapies. Repurposing existing drugs for nonmotor diseases is another approach. The article emphasizes the importance of addressing inequities and disparities in managing NMSs in PD, and suggests raising public awareness, providing education to healthcare professionals, and implementing nonpharmacological interventions as potential solutions.
