- Abstract
This paper is the result of exploratory research on labour relations in mining and metallurgy enclaves in Eastern Amazonia. It tries to show a link between the claims of the "new" Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) which address, from a social point of view, the equal distribution of wealth and, at a methodological level, the need to develop meso and microeconomic studies on labour relations. The analysis starts with a series of hypotheses on the existence of poor labour relations and weak labour union demands in the historical context of the Amazon region, which is characterized by its remote location in the interior of Brazil.
