THE BAPTIST INFLUENCE ON REVIVAL MUSIC/ THE REVIVAL INFLUENCE ON BAPTIST MUSIC.
- Authors
Music, David W.
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between Baptists and their music with the music of interdenominational religious revivals. The transition to a less-strict form of Calvinism among Baptists led to the creation of music programs within Baptist churches. Various Baptist hymn collections are examined by the author to analyze increased Baptist involvement in revivals. The contributions of musicians William B. Bradbury and pastor Robert Lowry to the canon of Baptist music are described. The historic changes in the singing of Baptist hymns based on Baptists' experiences with revivals are analyzed.
