Pierce, John D.
- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the nature of Baptist faith and identity. The importance of individual freedom and personal responsibility to Baptist identity is examined along with the belief that individuals can contact God without the help of an ecclesiastical body. The author examines the need for cooperation between different Baptist churches and denominations, along with the relative importance of spiritual development over adherence to Baptist principles. He also argues that Baptists should see one another as members of a large family.
