The article considers intimacy as an alternative model for literary translation. Topics discussed include perceptions of translation, essentialism, and instrumentalism in British poetry, myth of fidelity, and an alternative, hermeneutic model offered by Lawrence Venuti in response to the instrumentalism represented and enabled by fidelity.
