- Abstract
The author reflects on the model for eliminating cataract blindness in China. He notes the obstacles responsible for the rejection of cataract surgery in developing countries including the negative views of the quality of available health services, the inability to afford the direct and indirect costs of surgery, and the lack of awareness about cataract and its treatment. The author stresses the low cataract surgical rate (CSR) due to the rural and urban gap in medical services in the country.
