- Abstract
The IUCN Species Survival Commission Shark Specialist Group recently conducted a reassessment of the Red List status of sawfish species. The results showed that all five species of sawfish are now classified as Critically Endangered due to ongoing threats from fishing and habitat loss. However, there is some hope as viable populations of sawfish species have been found in certain regions, and there is evidence of recovery in Florida waters. The reassessment also highlighted the importance of conservation efforts and the need for grassroots education and outreach programs to change attitudes towards sawfish.
