- Abstract
The Ebo Forest in Cameroon is a biodiverse hotspot that is under threat from logging. The government of Cameroon has classified a portion of the forest as a Forest Management Unit, which allows for timber exploitation while also claiming to conserve threatened biodiversity in designated Conservation Enclaves. However, past experiences with similar units have shown that Conservation Enclaves are ineffective in preventing large-scale poaching facilitated by logging. This decision puts unique and rare species at risk of extinction. To address this issue, the authors recommend classifying the remaining portion of the Ebo Forest as a protected area and including ranger patrols in the management plans of Forest Management Units.
