- Abstract
The article discusses a report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which examines the impact of expanded newborn screening in the U.S. The American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) recommended a uniform screening panel of 29 disorders in 2006. Tandom mass spectrometry is used for multi-analyte analysis. Expanded screening would increase the number of children identified with disorders but public health programs are needed to manage the rare disorders.
