- Authors
MATTSON, KEVIN
- Abstract
In this article the author examines issues arising from cultural goods obtained without paying for them in the United States. The article notes the rise of free culture in the age of the Internet and the proliferation of web sites such as Hulu, YouTube and Google Books, where cultural items are available without charge or at minimal cost. A number of topics are addressed including the large book advances paid by publishers in the 1990s, the decline in book sales, and the burgeoning of online universities.
