- Abstract
The article focuses on the life and career of Austrian Expressionist painter and writer Oskar Kokoschka, who lived from 1886 to 1980. A discussion of Kokoschka's love affair with Alma Mahler, the widow of the composer Gustav Mahler, and of his work as a professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, is presented. An analysis and discussion of Kokoschka's 100 paintings and his painting "Double Portrait of Trudl" which was painted in 1931 and was featured on the cover of the March 19, 2009 issue of the "Journal of the American Medical Association", is offered.
