The article focuses on the reality of design practice in Switzerland in the 1950s. Topics include the differences between how graphic design was taught and practiced at the schools of applied art in Basel and Zurich during the 1950s and 1960s; mentions that local and everyday design practice, proposes a very practicable way of achieving a more diverse historiography; and also mentions that dominance of Zurich and Basel in the poster discourse can be explained by the two schools of applied arts that contributed to the reputation of two cities as graphic design hotspots.
