- Title
Going graphic: Using graphic novels to engage boys in school reading.
- Authors
Laycock, Di
- Abstract
The article focuses on the research conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) which studies the importance of graphic novels for students, particularly for the boys who are facing learning challenges in Australia. The research indicates that one of the strongest characteristics associated with higher or lower performance in reading is gender. In seeking remedies to boys' disengagement from reading, the OECD suggests that schools recognize the role of motivation and access to interesting and meaningful reading materials. Furthermore, the project's findings indicated that the use of a graphic novel as school reading improved both the quality and quantity of student engagement.
