- Abstract
The anthology "The Distrust Community of 'Querdenker'" by Sven Reichardt presents empirical findings on the Corona protest movement in Germany. The authors examine the protests from a cultural and social scientific perspective and deal with aspects such as media coverage, skepticism towards science, and right-wing tendencies. The volume is divided into four sections and addresses topics such as the perceptions and ideas of the protesters as well as the social composition of the Corona protests. The authors emphasize the importance of conspiracy narratives and warn against the misuse of pandemic experiences by anti-democratic forces. The anthology "Early Works of Corona Protest Research" analyzes the communication and practices of the "Querdenker" during the Corona protests. It is shown that the content shared on social media tends to deny the pandemic and reject government measures. Digital communication via messenger services plays an important role for the protest movement, while the rhetoric of the protesters aims to defend against media descriptions and criticism from other civil society groups. The visual self-representations of the demonstrators express fears of the dissolution of social order due to the pandemic. There is also limited societal support for the Corona protests. The anthology provides a solid interim result of the research and encourages further analysis.
