- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examined staphylococci implicated in the death or euthanasia of horses based on necropsies performed from 1995 to 2006. The emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains led to the increase in the importance of S. aureus as a pathogen. Results showed that morbidity linked with coagulase-positive staphylococci (CoPS) was 1.7% and that CoPS were associated with 90% of the death cases. In addition, 3 MRS isolates were identified.
