- Abstract
The article focuses on the memorial lecture of Anne Conlon in the 1987 women in the arts. It mentions German artist and feminist Gisela Ecker who stressed the effect oppressive social condition or prejudice in women, which should not be made part on the definition of women's art. It adds that the women artists from migrant tend to be suppressed because they came from non-English-speaking cultures and due to the access to the kind of networks that would give them affirmation. It notes that women status improvement in the arts is not only liberate individuals from disadvantage and discrimination, but it also enrich the totality of people's cultural experience.
