This article reports on biocompatible membranes in relation to hemodialysis therapy. Biocompatibility is defined as the ability of a device, material, system or procedure to perform without a clinically significant host response. Biocompatible membranes are superior for hemodialysis. The conclusion is based on the lack of complement activation and hypersensitivity reactions, and the improved lipid profile.
