- Abstract
The article presents an update on underground mining activities and ore processing at the John Saul ruby mine, which is owned and operated by Rockland Kenya Ltd. in the Tsavo West National Park of southern Kenya. The mining activities in the area are focused in the Kimbo shaft, which reaches 42 meter, and in the Gitonga shaft, which is 21-meter deep. About 23 mine employees are involved with ruby-bearing ore processing, which includes stockpiling of the ore in a staging area, as well as crushing and handicking of rubies. This whoel process resulted to a production of approximately 200-500 kilogram per month of mixed-grade ruby and pink sapphire since January 2008.
