- Abstract
The article presents information on the dyed greenish blue chalcedony from Brazil. During the 2007 Tucson gem shows, Ketan Dohlakia of J.D.S. Inc. in Royal Palm Beach, Florida showed some bright greenish blue dyed chalcedony. It was reported to have been treated in Europe by a new method that provides good color stability. According to Dohlakia, unlike other dyed-blue chalcedony that may be susceptible to fading, this material is stable to exposure to sunlight as well as to alcohol and acids. Dohlakia that he had started machine cutting smaller pieces which yielded round brilliants and princess cuts. Examination of two faceted samples showed homogenous interiors with no inclusions. The properties of the samples were similar to those listed for chalcedony in general by M. O'Donoghue.
