- Authors
LEWIS, DAVID M.
- Abstract
The article offers information on bisphosphonates, phossy jaw and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). It states that bisphosphonates were first synthesized in 1868 and became valuable in the textile, fertilizer and oil industries due to their ability to inhibit calcium carbonate precipitation. It says that the association between phossy jaw and matchmaking factories was established in the 1900s. Moreover, it offers details on BRONJ such as its manifestation and treatment.
