- Abstract
Left ventricular assist systems are being developed for permanent clinical implantation. An understanding of the interactions of these devices with the native circulation is required. Hemodynamic evaluation up to two weeks following implantation of a prototype permanent circulatory support device in the calf model is presented. Data obtained suggest that adequate cardiovascular support is provided in the two weeks following insertion of the device. Implantation of the device involves coring and cannulation of the apex of the left ventricle.
