- Abstract
A 10-year experience with cerebrovascular accidents at the University Hospital in Río Piedras is reviewed from available clinical records. Two series were organized at random with recording of the age prevalence, sex distribution, onset, clinical diagnosis, associated complications, spinal fluid findings and autopsy findings. The two series compare very well between themselves and with series published in other parts of the world. The most common clinical finding of the cerebrovascular groups is cerebral thrombosis with intracerebral hemorrhage as the most frequent finding in the autopsy material. On the basis of the statistics gathered from death certificates, it is apparent that the rate of coronary and cerebrovascular disease in the island is lower than in the Continental United States.
