In this article the author discusses some challenges faced by him while teaching English at Kingslea School in New Zealand. According to the author, students at this school have experienced some kind of trauma in their life, such as abuse or neglect, due to which they are often hyper-vigilant, and can easily misread others' social cues and reactions. The author says that such students can be taught by treating them with respect.
