- Abstract
The article presents a biography of former German ophthalmologist Alfred Bielschowsky, who was born in 1871 in Namslau, Silesia in a family of scholars. He began his medical education at the University of Breslau in Germany and received his doctorate in surgery in 1893 from the Humboldt University in Berlin. It also talks about his migration to the U.S. in 1936, the introduction of head tilt test, and the use of darkening glass wedge test in the evaluation of dissociated vertical divergence.
